Story Lab

Privacy

What we keep, why, and for how long. The short answer: almost nothing about your child.

Story Lab · Refunds · Privacy · Terms

South Africa's privacy law is POPIA, the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. It treats anyone under 18 as a child and gives children extra protection. Everybody Story Lab is made for is a child, so we built the course around collecting as little as possible.

What we ask about your child

One thing: a first name or a nickname, so the worksheets can be addressed to somebody. That is all. We do not ask for, and you should not send us, your child's surname, date of birth, photograph, school, home address or phone number.

Your child never signs in, never has a profile, and never appears anywhere other people can see. There is no chat, no comments and nobody for them to message.

What we keep about you

You are the account holder, not your child. We keep your name, your email address, the country you are in, your typed signature on the consent form, the date and time you signed, which version of the consent text you signed, and the reference of your payment. We keep the internet address your browser connected from, because without it a signature record proves very little.

Why we keep it

To give you access to what you paid for. To answer you if something goes wrong. To meet our duties under tax and consumer law. And to be able to show that a parent — not a child — agreed to this.

How long

Your access record for as long as you have access, and five years after that, because that is how long we may need to answer a question about a sale. Your consent record for the same period. If you ask us to delete your account we will, but we keep the fact that a consent existed and when, because deleting the evidence of consent defeats the point of it.

Who else sees it

Nobody else. We do not sell anything about you to anyone, and we do not advertise to your child. Some of these companies keep data outside South Africa, which POPIA allows where the other country protects it in a similar way.

Your rights

You can ask to see everything we hold about you and your child, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Email us and you will hear back within thirty days. If we get it wrong you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.

Cookies

One. After you sign the consent form we put a signed cookie on your browser so the lesson pages know you have paid. It lasts thirty days and it holds no personal information. There is no advertising cookie and no tracking on this site.

Who you are buying from

Acres of Diamonds Productions is a different company from Easy Does It Social Media (Pty) Ltd. If you have bought something from Easy Lead Engine or Easy Does It Social, that was a different seller with its own terms.
